Tullahoma - Mrs. Geneva Hufford Newkirk, 75, Tullahoma, Tenn., died
Friday, Dec. 23, 2005. Graveside memorial services for family and friends will
be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 22. Burial will be in the Dean Cemetery alongside her
parents who preceded her in death, Mr. Ora Earl Hufford and Mrs. Edythe Wade
Hufford, Pomona.
She was born January 26, 1930, in Severy.
She was a member of the New Song Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant and attended
First Christian (Disciples) Church, after moving to Tullahoma five years ago.
She was a homemaker and mother. At age 50, she earned her LPN degree and worked
at Maury Regional Hospital for eight years, retiring because of a back injury.
Survivors include a brother, Artie and Betty Hufford of Pomona; a sister, Elva
and Don Banning of Topeka; and five nieces and nephews with families; three
sons, Michael Newkirk, Atlanta, Ga.; Robert W. (Bob) Newkirk, Murfreesboro,
Tenn.; David E. Newkirk of Louisville, Ky.; a daughter, Juanita F. and Michael
W. Warren, Tullahoma, Tenn.; grandchildren, Jennifer M. and Brian Haley,
Murfreesboro, Tenn.; Robert M. "Robby" Newkirk, Summertown, Tenn., stationed in
Washington State; Timothy "Tim" Warren and Courtney M. Warren, Tullahoma, Tenn.;
a great-grand daughter Crystal Haley, Murfreesboro, Tenn.; and former husband,
Alva L. Newkirk, Tullahoma, Tenn.
She not only showered her own family with great love and care but let it flow
upon a family of foster children that had lost their mother and needed a
mother's love. Holidays and special times were shared in the Newkirk home by:
James "Jim" and Shirley Stewart, Donna S. and William Love, Frank and Carol
Stewart, Vickie S. Beach, Jackie S. and Joe West, all of Columbia, Tenn.; and
Miriam S. and Buddy Lawson, Waverly, Tenn. Blessed from this love, she gained 15
grandchildren and 29 great-grand children.
