A Listing of Automobiles in 1913

"Ottawa Weekly Herald," 18 Dec 1913, p6c3

Of the 341 automobile and fifty one motorcycles in Franklin County which are licensed there are fifty three different varieties of the automobile and fifteen of the "pop pop." A list of all of the cars in this county which have licenses is on file at the county treasurer's office but no list giving the license number of each car has been issued from the office of the secretary of state.

In checking up the list of automobiles in the county the desire for a light car to cover the ground easily and quickly is shown. There are almost twice as many Fords in the county as there is in any one other make of car. Th total Ford representation is eight one w3hile the Overland runs second with forty-three. The Overland has been climbing up the list during the past year. The Buick is third with twenty-eight and the Studebaker ranks fourth with twenty-five. There are thirteen E.M.F. cars and eight Flanders. These three, Studebaker, Flanders and E.M. F. are often considered to belong to the same class and th total would be forty six.

The various makes of automobiles and the respective number of each for this county are as follows:

Ford, 81: Overland, 43; Buick, 28; Studebaker, 25; Maxwell, 15; E.M.F., 13; Brush, 13; Cadillac, 12; Mitchell, 10; Chalmers, 9; Flanders, 8; Hupmobile, 6; Reo, 5; Jackson, 5; Paige, 5; Regal, 4; Krit, 4; Great Smith, 3; Lexington, 3; Metz, 3; Case, 3; Oakland, 3; two each of Auburn, Carter, Veilie, Rambler, Lambert, Wayne, Paige-Detroit, Abbott-Detroiter, Dorris, and Stevens; one each of American, Sampson, Columbia, Electric, Sears electric, Stoddard, Everitt, Great Western Packard, Franklin, Marion, Selden, Pope, Detroiter, Waverly, Cole, Aurora, R. C.H., Imperial and Parry.

The Excelsior motorcycle leads the list of 2-wheeled motor conveyances by a large margin. There are 19 of that brand. The other cycles are as follows: Indian, 9; Yale, 5; Pope, 4; Thor, 4; and one each of Geer, Emblem, Sears, Ho, Peerless, Harley Davidson, Wagoner, Flanders and homemade.
