J. H. Christman is sick.
S. H. Barnett was on our streets Monday.
Born: to Chas. Dwinnels and wife a boy baby, Jan. 4.
J? F. Dean, of Dean & Son, Ottawa, called Tuesday.
Mundy & Parkinson shipped a car of fat cattle yesterday.
Our school commenced Monday with several new scholars.
R. A. Tole has bought the Ed Hollingsworth meat market.
W. T. Pickrell, of Ottawa, made us a pleasant call Monday.
Melvern had a bad fire Sunday night. 5 buildings were burned.
Gross Palsey [Pasley], of Baldwin, and son were here visiting his brother Dr. Palsey.
Mrs. Geo. Parker made a visit with relatives at Hutchinson, Kansas last week.
Squire McCord has received a back pension of $690 and an increase to $10 per month.
J. W. Brinkerhoff returned from Springfield, Ill., last Thursday. He reports times about as hard there as here.
Memorial services in honor of the deceased Miss Mamie Palsey [Pasley] were held at the M.E. church Sunday evening.
Jas. Mundy and a gentleman from Kansas City were in Pomona last Wednesday looking up the city records.
Mr. D. B. Tener's daughter, Amanda, who was going to school at Wallula, Kansas, returned home Wednesday to visit her parents.
A miner working for Mr. Paynter started to climb down the shaft one day last week and missed his hold. He fell 15 feet and although receiving some severe bruises, sustains no permanent injuries.

Mrs. Chrisman is recovering.
John Parkinson has la grippe.
Mr. J. H. Whetstone is no better.
J. H. Christman is confined to the house.
Capt. Griffin is down from Topeka this week.
Mrs. A. D. Johnson is contemplating a trip to Colorado.
Ernest McMullen is up from Coffey Co. visiting his brothers.
Mr. Bert Odell was quite sick last week, but is all right now.
T. T. Gentry had to close his school a few days on account of influenza.
We are sorry that our friend W. O. Southerland has left us. Success attend him.
Miss Allie Topping, formerly of this place is down from Baldwin visiting friends and relatives.
O. N. Cole went down to Missouri to visit his sister who has been sick. He found her better.
Mrs. Geo. Hoops went to Emporia to take care of her daughter, Myrtie, who has been quite sick, but is now reported better.
Mr. Stith did not put in an appearance last Friday night as announced, owing we suppose tot he rain. There was quite a number out to hear him who went home disappointed.
