Pomona Items

New corn is coming in.

Miss Ethel Glenn Sundayed with her parents.

Coal is selling on our streets at 11 cts. per bushel.

W. W. Roach is in Genesee with a car load of apples.

Mr. Ed Griffin and family are visiting friends at this place.

John Schaar and the Glenn boys have returned from Oklahoma.

D. W. Ketchum and party left for Oklahoma on the 29th inst.

Chas. Vickers has moved to town to school his children this winter.

Henry Johnson has moved into the Parkinson property on east A street.

Mr. R. Burtner is having a car load of hay and apples shipped to him in east Chicago.

The enterprising firm of Hensley & Hatfield is shipping out flax and castor beans this week.

The fortunate man is the one who has castor beans to sell now. Just think of $1.80 per bushel.

J. Patterson quietly "sloped" eastward last week leaving his esteemed (?) autograph with some of our people.

Jas. Washburn had the misfortune to lose one of his horses while in Pomona last Monday, we did not learn the cause of its death.

The Ladies Social Union of the M.E. church deserves great credit for the new and attractive carpet they procured for the church.

Rev. Moore preached an interesting sermon at the M.E. church Sabbath morning, while Rev. Rhodes Moderator of the C. P. church gave the audience an excellent discourse in the same house in the evening.

We are pleased to know that we are to have another newspaper in our city; the fact that our wide awake citizen H. B. Hoyt is at the helm, means that "The Pomona Republican" will from its first inception be a bright , newsy and well patronized journal. "Vale"

Good trade last week.

W. F. Yount is home from Kansas City.

C. A. Cottrell Sundayed with his family.

W. S. Staley, of Ottawa, is visiting A. S. Benton.

L. L. Porter made us a short call a few days ago.

J. D. Marsh is well enough to be on our streets again.

W. W. Smith, of St. Joe Mo., was in our city last week.

REv. Frank Cargay, of Baldwin, was in our city Sunday last.

Jeff Mundy came in on the morning train Saturday from the west.

W. W. Roach came home Nov. 1st reporting the big snow out west.

J. W. Rouse, teacher at Dean schoolhouse, was in our city on Saturday.

H. B. Marshall, of Chicago Ills., stopped off to interview his friends recently.

Jas. McMullen brought in 85 head of cattle from Cherokee county last Saturday.

The supper and dinner given by the "Ladies Social Union" of the M.E. church netted $30.

The entertainment given Saturday evening Nov. 1st by the "Y.P.C.A." was a pleasing one and enjoyed by an appreciative audience.

M. E. Peebles has purchased property from Hensley & Hatfield on east A street.

The cylinder press int he Pomona Republican office is a "daisy."

The coal industry south of town is being pushed forward by John Dyer and Ole Johnson who have inexhaustible deposits of first class coal which always finds a ready market. Also C. Paynter manipulating the shaft, is doing his utmost to develope the resources of the coal field near Mr. Johnson's farm.

Rev. Kearns is circulating in Pomona.

S. J. Paul went to Ottawa last Monday.

Ed Waymire expects to go to Great Bend soon.

J. L. Hatfield is improving in health but slowly.

J. H. Whetstone went to Ottawa one day last week.

Henry Johnson came down from Baldwin on Saturday.

D. Bilger is making arrangements to move to Garnett soon.

H. B. Hoyt took a trip to the county seat a few days ago.

Stockmen are around buying choice cows at 2 cents per pound.

John Hudelson went to Kansas City last week with a carload of stock.

Hensley & Hatfield sold a carload of potatoes to W. W. Roach last Friday.

W. W. Roach brought in a carload of cattle on his return trip from the West.

Mrs. A. Odell is reported much better and is recovering her health slowly.

B. H. Mott and wife came to Pomona to reside. We welcome them to our city.

Mrs. R. B. Sutherland has returned from Kansas City to her home near Pomona.

J. McClellan was in from Garlington lately and reports everything in good shape.

W. W. Jordan, of Ottawa, was in our city recently looking after his interests here.

A protracted meeting is being held in M.E. Church and quite an interest is shown.

Jesse Crow is among the number who were fortunate to receive pension and back pay.

Miss McCurdy, the efficient teacher at Baldwin school house has charge of a class in M.E. Sunday School.
