Crime Getting out of Hand.
There is a strange exhibition of the perversity of human nature during the last few weeks. We cannot read a daily paper without being shocked with the accounts of two or three heart rending murders. What with the suicides, robberies also recounted it is almost sufficient to cause one to lose all faith in the elevation of mankind. It is impossible to account for this strange mania. Mankind is certainly not degenerating so rapidly. The laws have not been modified so as to give greater immunity to criminals. It is a question that demands earnest consideration. How can this violation of law and the inherent rights of society and the individuals be stopped and a better state of morals be engendered? |
