GREENWOOD TOWNSHIP'S The following information was abstracted from election results as printed in the Ottawa
newspapers. The offices and times of election were set by state statute. From the dates
you can see that the state kept moving the election around from April to November to
February, and eventually back to November. At first each office was elected annually, then
after a few years they began alternating the offices and different officers were elected
each year. In about 1903 the township elections were changed to every other year. As you
can see the township's were divided up into road districts. The road overseer's were
responsible for a road crew in their district. Each tax payer in the township was required
to put in so much time on the roads. The early Greenwood township minute book is on
microfilm at the Ottawa Library. It does not contain a wealth of information but does list
the early elected officials and a listing of the names of the persons who worked on the
