TEACHER WITH NO PUPILS. ["Ottawa Weekly Republican," 27 Feb 1902, page 1, column 6] There is a queer situation out in school district No. 62, popularly known as "Rattlesnake" district but politely called New Hope. It is a joint district, between Osage and Franklin taught by Miss Chloe Ward of Pomona. The enrollment of the school has been 21 this term, and the term has yet a month to run. This afternoon Sup't. Smith received a telephonic dispatch from a director of the district conveying the remarkable intelligence that every family in which was a pupil of school age had removed from the district; the only remaining pupils were six who lived outside the district. He further stated that the teacher insisted on completing her term, and asked for directions. He was told to effect a compromise if possible. |
