"A. R. Kelsey is clerking for John Nelson."

"Frank Reynolds moved into the Pomona Hotel on Thursday of last week."

"Greenwood - John Davis has nearly gotten his barn completed. It was laid off by F. Miller and Robert Martin assisted with the carpenter work. The barn is 35 X 48 foundation with a basement 36 X 36 under it. The timbers are all large and the barn is built on the old fashion plan of 6 X 6 posts, and sills 8 X 8 and plates 6 X 6 raised in bents. The barn is one of the best in Greenwood township - probably the largest."

"We received a very interesting letter from Henry Johnson, of Chicago, in which he sends his best regards to all his Pomona friends."

"The 'little bridge' which has recently been put in across the pond of water on East 4th St. is quite an acquisition to that part of town and of great service to the pedestrian public who perambulate in that direction. The bride has long been needed to make that street at all passable during muddy weather for people walking, and will be greatly appreciate and much used by those coming in from the east and northeast part of town. The bridge is about 75 feet long and made of heavy material."

"The Bennett brothers are building a large barn for Mr. Plank of the Chippewa Hills."

"J. H. Whetstone won his suit against the Cider Mill Co. and judgement was given for the return of the mill or $520 in chas and $50 damage."

"Mrs. Douglas came in from Lyndon Wednesday morning where she had been in the interest of the Royal Neighbors. She found prospects in the near future to organize."

"Mrs. Douglas organizer for the society of Royal Neighbors, came in yesterday to organize a society here which she did last night. Over twenty members are now on the list and more expected to follow. Prospects are flourishing for a strong order of Royal Neighbors in this place."

"On last Saturday morning fire broke out in the Hensley store from a hot stovepipe ventilator and when first seen seemed to have good headway, but by prompt efforts with the chemical fire extinguishers which the council had furnished the town, it was soon under control. The block would have all been burned out but for the fire extinguishers."

"The WCTU hall, not being big enough to hold the crowd that went to hear the Trousdale Bell Ringers on Monday and Tuesday nights, they moved into the Kraus hall where they gave their third and last entertainment on Wednesday night."

"Mrs. Harrison Reid returned with Mrs. Studebaker on Sunday from Mr. Barton's where they had been attending the sick bedside of Mr. Barton's little son and was exhausted by the trip that she had to be carried into the house and is yet in a very feeble condition."

"Five of the band boys, who are also members of the alumni society, are preparing music to assist in the program at the banquet. Extensive preparations are being made by the Alumni society to banquet the class of '99'. This promises to be one of the best banquets ever given by the society and it is hoped that many alumnus will be present."

"The Pomona Skimming Station will soon be under headway and in full operation. This is one of the best enterprises ever started up in Pomona and it is hoped will receive a hearty support from the farmers of Pomona and vicinity. Mr. E. Killough of Ottawa who is interested in the work and understands the business thoroughly, will operate the station for the company this season. The Company will receive milk on and after Monday, May 8. Full instructions regarding the keeping of milk cans, etc., may be had on application to the station. Cows will also be furnished by the company."

"On Tuesday morning a terrible racket was heard in the northwest corner of town about 1 o'clock which sounded like the whole town had broken loose. But morning revealled what had been goin on during the night. The little old building standing on J. H. Whetstone's property had been rolled over a time or two and dragged out into the middle of the street where it was left."

"Prof. Huskey got an offer of a position in Texas which he preferred and the school board concluded to let him off from his informal contract to teach our school. The position was then offered to Prof. W. S. Staley and on yesterday he answered by telegraph accepting the place. This insures a No. 1 principal for the schools for the coming year and the funds of a good school will be greatly encouraged."

"J. H. Whetstone is enclosing his lots north of the house with a hog tight wire fence."

"There is talk of having the Fourth of July celebration in the school yard this year."

"E. F. Scovill has set up and running an up to date soda fountain, and also serves ice cream in the Drug store."

"An improvement in the form of a culvert was made at the corner of West A and Franklin Streets Saturday morning."

"About 3400 pounds of milk is now being furnished the skimming station daily."

"About half the patrons of the skimming station bring in their milk on Sunday."

"The river lacked but a few feet of being as high last Saturday as it was on the 5th of July four years ago."

"The telephone pole by the office was broken down Wednesday morning by Ed. Vickers team running into it."

"E. F. Scovill did the right thing when he put in the walk in front of his premises. It was something much needed and several other walks are in a like condition and very badly need rebuilding."

"A little culvert was put in yesterday across Main St. on Fifth which adds greatly to the improvement for public travel."

"The Negro Minstrel show last Friday night was nearly but not quite, as near a perfect fake as ever struck the town."

"The prospects for a heavy crop of corn are better now than in 1892 the banner corn year."

"The Pomona Fruit Co. are working up crab apples, sweet apples and tomatoes and employ several hands. J. J. has got a full fledged factory and at times 18 fires going in preserving fruit and making jelly."

"There will be no services at all at the Presbyterian church next Sunday as the house is being replastered."

"N. V. Hudelson will come to Pomona to live if he finds a suitable residence. It will be quite an acquisition to Pomona to have Mr. and Mrs. Hudelson settle here."

"School commences the first Monday in Sept. which is Monday Sept. 4th. An error was made in our issue of June 30th. The announcement that school would commence on Sept. 11th is incorrect. The school meeting voted to commence school on the first Monday in Sept. which gives just time for four months school before Christmas."

"The abutments to the Kelsey Creek bridge were completed this week."

"There will be a balloon ascension every day at the Williamsburg fair this fall."

"Frank Tripp is numbered among the industrious men of our village. He began the erection of a new barn the first of the week; Wm. Wilson acting as carpenter."

"Geo. Kraus is building another barn. Geo. certainly expects an abundant yield in his corn crop and would otherwise not have the room for storage, at least we can account for this industrious move of his in no other manner."

"William Patton, of Kansas City, Mo., has purchased the Pomona Mill and has put R. P. Woolworth in charge to fit up to grind all kinds of grain and make flour and meal. The mill will be thoroughly overhauled and repaired, for there is yet enough left from the wreckage it has undergone from the hands of vandals to make a good mill with a reasonable outlay of expense. Mr. Woolworth is a veteran in the mill business and understands his trade as well as any man living. He expects to add to the size of the building by another year and fit up the third story complete with a new roof and improved machinery doubling the capacity that was originally intended for the mill. He will put in a gristing department should there be a general demand for it. Our people may be congratulated to have the mill get into such good and energetic hands."

"The balloonist, Prof. G. A. Kelly who has been here for the past two weeks, made an ascension at Quenemo last Friday, Oct 13. It being an unlucky day and date he was hurt by the balloon not ascending up far enough. He fell in a lumber yard and then was drug over a pile of lumber and then jerked against the fence. He returned to Pomona Saturday evening having recovered to a great extent, but weak and bruised. Prof. Kelly started to Clarkesville, Arkansas Sunday afternoon where he expects to make three ascensions; one on Wednesday Oct 18, Thursday 19, and Friday 20, after which he will return. We wish him success in all future ascensions and hope to see him return safe and sound."

"N. V. Hudelson has purchased of Clint Burtner their residence on East A street. Mr. Burtner will move out and Mr. Hudelson will move in during the next two weeks. Mr. ..."

"The new bridge across Kelsey creek is up and is a very creditable structure. It is high enough to escape any flood of Kelsey creek in the future and when the road is graded up as it should be through the bottom on each side one of the bad places between our town and Ottawa will be all right."
