"The rapid growth of an enterprising firm-splendid business methods
crowned with success. Proprietorship of the business now in the hands of
Mr. Morris Mindlin. About two years ago Mr. Morris Mindlin came to our
city and purchased the merchantile business owned by Mr. J. H. Whetstone,
the business was a small one, but immediately after taking it in charge,
Mr. Mindlin began to reach out after trade and to replensih his stock with
the newest and best the market afforded. Customers began to come from a
scope of country that Pomona had not done business with for years. After
conducting the business for several months, his brother, Mr. Ben Mindlin,
was taken into partnership, and under the title of Mindlin Bros. the firm
prospered and enlarged its business many fold.
It was soon evident that a larger building was needed and, according to carefully drawn plans, the handsome store building now occupied by the firm was erected.
In the new building they put thousands of dollars worth of general merchandise, until it was crowded from wareroom to second story. Indeed, when they moved into their new building their stock was almost completely new, and today all the goods that remain from the Whetstone stock could be carried off on a wheelbarrow.
It has been the policy of this firm to carry over no goods to be out of date and shop worn, and the freshness and style of everything in stock today testifies to this fact. During the dullest seasons of the year, they have kept up a splendid trade by offering inducements that would tempt the closest buyer. Near the beginning of the present year, Mr. Ben Mindlin decided to gon on the road for a clothing house, and Mr. Morris Mindlin, the senior partner, again became the sole owner. From this on the business will be under the name of Morris Mindlin.
Mr. Mindlin is careful and painstaking in all things pertaining to his business. he has with him as salespeople, two of Pomona's most popular young people. Miss Mary Rich successfully presides over the dry goods department, and Mr. Harry Little may be found all over the store, though the grocery department is in his immediate charge.
Mr. Mindlin has an interesting family of a wife and one child. He is an enterprising citizen and is doing everything in his power to draw trade to Pomona and make the town a lively business place. That he will continue to succeed in busines is an assured fact, and it is his intention to place on his counters the coming spring a stock of goods larger and finer than any Pomona has ever before seen."
