"H.J. Ottaway has sold his interest in the Ullom & Ottaway Hardware store to G.S. Ullom who took possession yesterday."

"There is a movement on foot here to form a stock company and build a good modern hotel in this city. It is to be hoped that the plan will mature and be successfully carried through. A good hotel properly managed would be one of the best town boomers we could have."

Train engineer at Ottawa sticks his head out of the window of the engine and is hit in the head by the corner of another car sitting on a side track. He is knocked unconscious and the train wrecks.

"Lunacy examinations for John Annett who is 70 years old and is a bachelor. He has lived in a wretched little 'shack' on his farm three miles northwest of town for over 40 years."

"F.R. Patton, who traveled a short time for the Pomona Fruit Co., is to return to the creamery business in which he engaged so many years. He feels it to be his special calling. We are sorry to lose a man of his character and ability from our part of the country, but are glad for the community where he and his wife make their home. A complaint regarding the location of the depot was made to the State Board of Railroad Commissioners by S.L. Knapp and was referred to the management of the Missouri Pacific. A letter was received yesterday stating that the move had been authorized and that work on the project would begin immediately."

A meeting of the Neosho Presbytery was held at Ottawa Tuesday night to dissolve the Pomona pastorship and issue credentials to the Presbytery in which Oberlin is located."

"Rev Mr Clark and wife have made many friends here who are sorry to see him leave. The Oberlin church has a membership of over 200 about twice that of this place. The church here has not yet issued a call for Mr Clark's successor."

"John Hudelson received word Saturday that the Vice President of the Missouri Pacific railway had accepted his proposition in regard to building a cement sidewalk to the depot and had ordered the material sent on. The company will begin preparations for moving the depot and stock yards at once.

Barn burns down on Isaac Baughmans, northeast of town.

"There is talk of having an old fashioned barbecue at the annual picnic this fall, and everybody will be furnished their dinners absolutely free. In fact it is proposed to not allow anything on the grounds for money making purposes. Anyone found spending a cent that day will be arrested and fined one million dollars."

"CENTROPOLIS BANK OPENS - Republic Aug 5. The Farmers State Bank of Centropolis, capitalized at $10,000, opened for business about 6 o'clock last night.

J.R. Finley of the Ottawa State Bank is president of the new institution. It was organized July 11, and incorporation papers were received soon after. Upon the approval of the bank's affairs by J.N. Dolly, state bank commissioner, word was received late yesterday afternoon from S.P. Mower of Lawrence, deputy bank commissioner, instructing the bank to open for business. It is located in the Fager building and is equipped with two safes and a complete set of bank furniture.

The officers are as follows: President, J.R. Finley; vice president, W.A. Milburn; cashier, G.H. Hill; directors, J.R. Parker, Joseph Barnhart, M. Groenmiller and F.B. Nelson."

"Pomona held its third annual picnic last Friday. While the crowd was not quite as large as last year the picnic was a grand success and everything passed off quietly. Hon A.C. Mitchell, Republican candidate for congress, made an address at 1 o'clock and the entire program was carried out. The morning parade was the best ever made here and was led by a band of cowboys and cowgirls followed by the Greenwood tribe of Indians led by the chief, B.A. Adams, then the Williamsburg band and Odd Fellows in full uniform after which came the floats and citizens in gaily decorated carriages. The ballgame was for a purse of $25 between Williamsburg and Quenemo and was won by the former by a score of 4 to 5. The Pomona and Michigan Valley clubs played a five inning game which was won by a score of 3 to 0."

"Work on two new residences for J.A. Hudelson and J.W. Hudelson will be commenced soon and which will be constructed on adjacent lots will be exactly similar in plan. Complete water and electric light plants will be installed for the residences. Water and light will be furnished to N.V. Hudelson, father of J.A. and J.W. Hudelson.

The houses will be built of brick and veneer with tile roofs, and will contain eight rooms a piece, exclusive of kitchen, bathrooms, and closets. The plans are now in the office of George P. Washburn, and in a week ten days, bids will be asked on the building contracts."
